State Senator Proposes Moving Ocean "Further Back" to Solve Beach Erosion
First-term Leonida state senator Rex Dunbar introduced a bill Thursday that would authorise the state to "relocate the ocean approximately 200 yards offshore" as a solution to beach erosion. The bill includes a $900 million budget line for what the senator's office describes as "large-scale aquatic repositioning infrastructure" and does not specify a method. Environmental scientists contacted by this publication ranged in response from "no" to "please stop calling." The bill has six co-sponsors. Senator Dunbar is up for re-election in November and is currently polling at 52%.
